The goal of this project is to develop and characterize a new family ofbioactive glass based scaffolds with novel chemical composition, e.g.incorporating selected therapeutic ions for specific cellular response,e.g. angiogenic effect [1]. The scaffolds should exhibit tailordeddegradability, outstanding bioactivity, drug delivery capability andbone-forming effects. The combination of bioactive glasses withbiodegradable polymers to improve the fracture resistance and toincrease the toughness of the scaffolds will be investigated. Themorphology, physicochemical properties ,drug delivery capability andbiological properties (both in vitro and in vivo) of the new scaffoldswill be measured.
