EPD is a very promising technique to manipulate bioactive inorganic nanoparticles and polymer macromolecules to produce nanostructured arrangements needed in specific applications. If the interest is to combine two or more components to form multi-functional composites, it is essential to develop processing methods that lead to homogeneous dispersion of each component in appropriate matrix materials. The focus of the present research project is the development of nanostructured polymer-ceramic nanocomposites by EPD. The stability of (diphasic) suspensions for EPD, the optimization of EPD parameters and the properties of the new nanocomposites will be investigated, including the application of electrophoretic co-deposition and the investigation of alternating current EPD.
