The present project involves the investigation of vitrification and sintering methods to thermally treated a variety of problematic (silicated based) waste with the aim of fabricating new glasses and glass-ceramics. The technology will be developed to provide reproducible methods leading to the resue of obtained silicate systems as raw materials for the manufacturing of novel glass-ceramics, both dense and porous products, as structural materials with improved structural and functional properties. The biocompatibility of the materials will be investigated by leaching tests and cell culture methods.
This project is carried out in the framework of the EU ITN project GLACERCO.
